Burial Listing for surnames beginning with - R -

1) A single rose beside a burial listing indicates an unmarked grave.  If you find that your family member is unmarked and you wish to place a marker, please contact the Lee Mission Cemetery Board to discuss your options and to notify them of your intent.

2) A box with an "R" in it preceding a burial listing indicates a reserved plot

3) The number to the right of the death date is the burial plot number and can be used in the plot search option  to find out who is buried in adjoining plots.  An N/A in the plot location indicates that although the individual is known to have been buried in the cemetery, the exact location is not known at this time.   All additions and corrections are appreciated and can be sent to stephenie@leemissioncemetery.com.

 Interment Record #513
"Rev. D.L. Rader Dies After Long Illness--Editor of Pacific Christian Advocate And Well-Known Figure In Methodism--Rev. D.L. Rader, editor of the Pacific Christian Advocate and for many years one of the most prominent Methodist clergymen in this state, died Sunday morning in Portland after an illness of many months.  October 4 last, while delivering an address before the Methodist Ministerial association of Portland in Taylor Street Methodist church on the life of the late Bishop Foss, he was stricken with apoplexy.  He was taken to Port-land sanitorium and later removed to his home, 68 East Sixty-third.  For a time his left side was paralyzed, but recently his condition appeared to improve.  Last Monday he complained to his wife of being tired and shortly afterward suffered another stoke of apoplexy and became unconscious, in which state he remained until his death.
He was born in Jackson county, Mo. in 1850, and was ordained a minister in the Methodist Episcopal church south when 19 years of age, and assumed charge of the church at Oskaloosa, Kan.  Sixteen years later he became affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church.  During the past 25 years he has been prominent in the Methodist church in the northwest, holding various pastorates and other positions of prominence.  His first charge in the northwest was at Tacoma.  During the past seven years he has been editor of the Pacific Christian Advocate, which is published in Portland.
He is survived by his widow, four sons and two daughters.  His sons are Lyell and Paul Rader, of Chicago; Ralph Rader, of Los Angeles and Luke Rader, of Portland.  Mrs. R.H. Hughes and Miss Catherine Rader, of Portland, are his daughters.
Funeral services will be held in Taylor Street Methodist church, Port-land, at 9:45 this morning.  From 9 until time for the funeral the body will lie in state in the church.  Interment will be in the Jason Lee cemetery in Salem.  Bishop Charles W. Smith, Dr. Benjamin Young and other Portland clergymen will participate in the funeral services.
The remains will arrive on the 1 o'clock Oregon electric car today, where they will be met at the State street depot by friends and the student body from Willamette University, and accompanied to Lee Mission cemetery, where services will be held." DOS Feb 7, 1911 6:4

"An Awful Mistake--Richard Ramsden Swallowed Carbolic Acid Yesterday--At His Home on Howell Prairie--Intended to Take a Dose of Medicine--The Wrong Bottle--Richard Ramsden, a farmer residing about a mile and a half south of Howell, in this county, took a tablespoonful of carbolic acid, about 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon, by mistake.  He has been sick for some time past and after each meal was accustomed to take some medicine, which had been prescribed for him by a physician.  He took down a bottle containing the poisonous liquid and, going to the pump outside the house, swallowed a quantity of it, and turning immediately he exclaimed: `I have taken the wrong medicine.'
He at once fell unconscious, in which condition he has since remained.  Mrs. Ramsden at once prepared some flour and water and succeeded in getting him to drink a portion of it before he became unable to swallow.  Dr. J.N. Smith, of this city, was summoned and went out to the farm home and did what he could to relieve the unfortunate man from the effect of the poison, but was unable to do much for him.  When Dr. Smith left the Ramsden home, about 8 o'clock last evening, there was a slight indication of returning consciousness, but there is little hope entertained for the recovery of the unfortunate man.  Mr. Ramsden is about 40 years of age and has spent most of his life in Marion county.  He has a family consisting of a wife and four children."   "Randle--In Salem, Oregon, Saturday, May 30, 1891, at 25 minutes to 4 o'clock a.m. Mrs. S.A. Randle.
Deceased was aged 33 years, 5 months and 1 day.  Her maiden name was Ellen Taggart, and she was a daughter of Adam and Margaret Taggart, of Shipman, Illinois, where she was born.  She was married to S.A. Randle in August of 1874.
She leaves her husband and eight children, six little girls and two boys, the oldest a son of 16 years, (who works for J.J. Dalrymple & Co), and the youngest a daughter of 3 years.
Mrs. Randle had been seriously sick for about three weeks, not having been well all winter.
She was a consistent member of the Methodist church, a true Christian and a devoted mother.  Death under any conditions is sad enough, but for a mother to leave a large family of little ones is doubly sad.  These children will miss the painstaking and loving care of their dearest friend on earth--for who can be so dear as a mother?  The bereaved family deserves and has the full sympathy of this community.
The funeral will be held from the family residence, corner of State and Fourteenth streets, at 2 o'clock sharp today (Sunday), conducted by Rev. C.E. Cline, and the remains will be laid to their eternal rest in Lee Mission cemetery, east of the city."  OS May 31, 1891 4:3

"Killed By A Gun--Salem Man in Accident at Residence Meets Death.--Charles Richter, in Cleaning Shooting Iron, Puts Lead Into His Head--Inquest by Coroner is Held--Death came in-stantly to Charles Richter yesterday morning when, in attempting to clean out a No. 12 hammerless shotgun, he received the contents of a heavily loaded shell in his head above the left ear.  The charge practically tore off Mr. Richter's head and scattered his brains about the back porch of his home at 332 South Twenty-fourth street, where he lived with his wife, Madelina Richter, his daughter, Dora, and his two sons, Henry C. and Maurice.
Accidentally Killed--Despondency because of ill health was at first believed to have been the motive force that caused the deed, but upon investigation of the affair, Coroner Clough decided that it was accidental.  Mr. Richter had been ill for some time and had been doctoring without any apparent result.  He had also visited hot springs in California in search of health.  By the position of the body when it was found and the fact that the gun was some distance from the body, Coroner Clough was convinced that the gun was discharged accidentally.
Wife Finds Husband Dead--Mrs. Richter was at home when the accident took place and rushed to the back porch when she heard the discharge.  She found her husband lying in a pool of blood on the back porch and near to the back door leading into the kitchen.  His head was near the wall, while his feet were toward the edge of the porch.  Mrs. Richter said that she remembered that Mr. Richter said he was going to clean his gun and paid no attention to it until she was startled by the report.
Mr. Richter was a shoemaker and had a shop at 1829 State street, while his residence was at 322 South Twenty-fourth street, at the corner Trade.  He was fifty-seven years of age and leaves the above-mentioned children.  Dora and Henry G. Richter are employed at Meyers' department store while Maurice Richter lives in California.  Funeral arrangements will be made later." OS Aug 22, 1913 3:5

"SALEM - "Jo Ritchey " as she liked to be called has moved on to be with her heavenly Father. She moved to Salem from Missoula, Mt. (where she was born) with her parents during WWII. An avid competitor in life, she won her battle against cancer for 385 days and not letting it slow her down. She was a 1956 graduate of South Salem HS and enjoyed her class reunions and classmates. "Mrs. Ritchey" as she was known retired from North Salem HS where she served as a Media Specialist Assistant, enjoying mentoring the many students she supervised.
Jo's dedication to serve others throughout her life filled her heart with joy. She was the PTA President at Richmond Elementary, and began serving Viking Athletics as a member of the Booster Club. She videoed and made highlight films for teams and coaches, worked the ticket booths and a plethora of other things. She was a first woman to serve as a trustee of the Salem Eagles, volunteering for many of those years. The highlight of her bowling career was a 276, Mom always enjoyed social activities. She was an avid golfer among the community at Meadowlawn and served the Ladies' golf Club with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Roy and Irene Robinson. She is survived by her brother, Don Robinson and his wife Nancy and family of Salem, her cousin, Judy Little, and her husband Gary and family, of Florence, Mt. whom she loved to visit every summer.
She was a proud mother of three children, Vicki Bash (Salem), Denise Zimmerman (Anchorage AK), Mike Ritchey, (Rogue Valley) and loved to be surrounded by family at holidays including their spouses Cliff Bash, Gary Zimmerman, and Ginny Ritchey as well as her ex-husband Tom Ritchey of Salem and his family.
Jo's family was the treasure of her life and she enjoyed gathering all for special events. She was blessed with five grandchildren and their spouses; Karli Johnson (Robert), Kristi Ledesma (Juan), Kyli Zimmerman (Dan), Tyler Zimmerman and Brian Mahuna, and three great grandchildren; Alexis Ledesma 4, Kaelynn Johnson 3 months, and Aaliyah due in June.
Mom, you hit them long and straight, you enjoy God's grace, and you say hello to everyone for us. We will keep your blessings in our hearts, cherish your memories with our minds, honor your spirit with our everlasting love, and follow your inspiration to serve others. "Jo Ritchey" you inspired all, amazed many, and helped as many as she could.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Salem Library -a place Mom loved to go and she still has her original Library card from 1950's.
The family is having a "Celebration of Life" at Keizer Elks, 4250 Cherry Ave NE, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 14, 2011. Thank you to Virgil T. Golden Funeral Services for all your support and kindness through our difficult time. [Statesman Journal May 7, 2011]

"Funeral of Mrs. Roberts--Held From the First Methodist Church Yesterday--Laid To Rest By The Side Of Her Late Husband In Lee Mission Cemetery--She Comes from an Historic Family, and Has Been a Resident of the Pacific Northwest for Over a Half Century--Worked with the Early Missionaries of the Methodist Church in Oregon--The funeral service of the late Mrs. Hannah W. Roberts was held yesterday in the First Methodist Episcopal church.  It was conducted by the pastor of the church, Rev. John Parsons, D.D., assisted by Rev. D.A. Watters, the Presiding Elder, Rev. Wm. Robert Winans, the Sunday school missionary, who was named for the late Dr. Roberts, was one of the pall bearers.  The following memorial sketch of the deceased was prepared and read by Dr. John Parsons.
Hannah W. Roberts--Hannah Webster was born in Philadelphia, PA., in the first decade of the last century, probably 1807, and she died in Salem, Or., December 29, 1901.  On her mother's side she descended from a family of French Quakers, and on her father's side from an English family, who came to America in the early settlement of the country.  One of her uncles was an officer in the army of the Revolution, and Lafayette came to see him when he revisited America in 1824.  She grew to womanhood in the family of a wealthy relative, and in the midst of polite society.
At the age of 15 she was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church.  She was married to the late Rev. Wm. Roberts, D.D., April 12, 1836.  He was a prominent young minister at that time in the city of Philadelphia, and in his appointments he ranked with the Rev. George Cookman, D.D., one of the most eloquent ministers of the Methodist church in that day.  But after thirteen years of active work in the ministry he was selected by the Bishops of the M.E. church for the office of superintendent of the Oregon Mission.
The mission was planted by Jason Lee in 1834, just thirteen years before Wm. Roberts arrived in Oregon.  They sailed from New York November 27, 1846, and they arrived in Portland June 28, 1847, being seven months on the sea.  Besides Dr. and Mrs. Roberts the mission party consisted of Rev. Jas. H. and Mrs. Wilbur and three children, two belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, and one to the Wilburs.
Since June, 1847, Mrs. Roberts has lived in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.  Her husband, Dr. Wm. Roberts, died in Dayton, Or., August 22, 1888, a little over thirteen years ago; and the Wilburs died a few months before. They are all buried in the same lot in Lee Mission cemetery, and the same monument marks their graves.  In life they were united, and in death they are not divided.  Mrs. Roberts died of old age.  Gradually the tide of life ebbed away, and she became less and less equal to its cares, but though old in body she was always young in spirit, and she looked into eternity with a confidence inspired by God.
Though for some time she was almost blind, and entirely unable to read, the words of scripture were printed on her mind, and in them she found the bread of life and the water of life.  It cannot be said of her that she was in a straight betwixt two, for she desired to depart and be with Christ, and when the day of her departure came she was ready.  Decay of body, however, was greater than decay of faculty, for her mental vigor was fresh and strong almost to the last.  About two years ago she told me she wanted the following inscription over her grave: `Hannah W. Roberts, Wife of Rev. Wm. Roberts, Aged 94 Years, Departed This Life in Peace.'" OS Jan 2, 1902 6:1

Deceased was aged about 75 years and was a pioneer missionary.  He came to Oregon in company with Father Wilbur in 1847, and was superintendent of Lee Mission up to 1853, being the third person who had charge of the mission.  He has been connected with the Oregon conference of the Methodist church ever since, with the exception of about two years, spent in missionary work in Idaho.  He was one of the original incorporators of Willamette University under the territorial law establishing it.  The last conference of his church stationed him at Dayton, and his year's work would have expired about the last of this month.  When Father Wilbur, who recently died at Walla Walla, bought his lot in the Lee Mission cemetery he gave one half of it to the deceased, saying that, as they had come to this country together on the same ship, and had labored together since, they should be buried side by side. Accordingly, the remains will be conveyed from Dayton today, and the funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon, and thence the cortege will proceed to the grave.  Rev. Drs. Harrington and Doane are expected to officiate." DOS Aug 23, 1888 3:3

"Last Summons--Rev. George H. Roork, Called Home After Long And Useful Life--After Crossing the Plains in 1854, Entered the Ministry of M.E. Church And Spent Remainder of His Life Working for Others--Left Monument of Good Deeds--Rev. G.H. Roork, who is well known in Salem, died at his home in Lostine, Wallowa county, Oregon, on Thursday, June 2, 1904, aged 74 years, 4 months after an illness of two weeks, suffering from a complication of diseases, including heart trouble, stomach trouble and la grippe.
The remains arrived in Salem last evening, accompanied by Mrs. Roork, and were taken to W.T. Rigdon's undertaking parlors, where they will lie until this afternoon, which funeral services will be held at the First M.E. church at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. T.L. Jones of Amity, an old pioneer Methodist minister and friend of the family.  Interment will be made in Lee Mission cemetery, the remains to be consigned to a resting place beside those of his deceased wife.
Rev. George H. Roork was born in Meigs county, Tennessee, February 15, 1830.  In 1854 he crossed the plains with an oxteam, coming direct to Oregon, where in 1864 he was married to Miss Carrie E. Lee, who died May 16, 1896.  On June 20, 1896, he was again married to Miss Rebecca E. Woods, who survives him.  He also leaves one brother, Charles of Pendleton, and two nieces, Mrs. J.D. Lee of Portland, and Mrs. L. Abrams, of Lincoln.
The history of the life of this old pioneer is one continued story of usefulness, giving up his life and devoting his energies in working for the welfare of his fellowmen.  In 1855 he joined the Methodist Conference of Oregon, and immediately began preaching the gospel, which he continued with unvaried activity and power until 1873, when, on account of ill health, he was placed on the superannuated list.  Again from 1887 to 1892 he occupied the pulpit.  Probably few men in Oregon have done a greater work or brought more souls to accept Christianity than Rev. George Roork, and the memory of his works will ever remain fresh in the minds of the present generation on many of the most important changes of the Methodist church in Oregon.  Of wealth, he has accumulated none, but there are few whose lives have been more successful in the finest sense of the word or whose works will be more lasting than the deceased.  That respected citizen and business man of Salem, the late John Roork, who did so much for Willamette University, his last act being the construction of the new gymnasium, was a brother of the deceased.
On May 14 he contracted a cold while working in the garden at his little home in Lostine, and steadily sank, the fatal disease, heart trouble, slowly fastening its grip on his reduced vitality until the end came last Thursday." DOS Jun 5, 1904 1:2

"Rev. J.H. Roork Dead--Passes Away Suddenly Yesterday Morning--After an Illness of One Week's Duration--Was an Active Worker in the Methodist Church--One week ago yesterday Rev. J.H. Roork of this city was suddenly taken ill with neuralgia of the heart while going to his home on south High street about the noon hour.  The attack came on when near the residence of Dr. J. Reynolds on Ferry and High streets and by the aid of passersby he was taken to the physician's home where medi-cines were administered to relieve him of his sufferings.  Later during the day the reverend gentleman was taken to his home.  Since that time his condition changed for the better and yesterday morning he was so far recovered as to sit up and assist in dressing himself.  He partook of a substantial meal and afterwards prepared to pass the remainder of the day in a quiet manner at his beautiful home which overlooks the capital city from the summit of Edes' hill.
Suddenly he complained of severe pain in his left side and before relief could be administered his spirit took its flight and at 10:45 o'clock he lay a corpse.
The news of Rev. Roork's sudden demise quickly spread over the city and there were expressions of profound regret on every hand as well as great surprise, but few having known that he had been ill.
His brother, Rev. G.W. Roork, residing about two miles southeast of Salem, last saw him Saturday, when he appeared as though in a condition to soon be out and at his office in Willamette university, of which institu-tion he was serving as financial agent.  The brother was in Salem again yesterday, having driven direct to the business center and it was a terrible shock for him to learn of the sad news while engaged in doing some trading at one of the stores.
J.H. Roork was a native of Tennessee and was born on the 20th of January, 1826.  In the month of October of his twenty-first year he and Latitia Witten were united in wedlock in that state.  They lived together about eighteen months when death claimed the wife, she leaving her husband with a young child to mourn her taking away.  A short time afterwards the child died and Mr. Roork, in order to seek relief from his great affliction, emigrated to California, where he remained about ten years and took unto himself a second wife in the person Eveline Herrick.  While in that state he com-menced the ministry in the Methodist church.  In the fall of 1861 himself and wife concluded to move to Oregon, coming direct to Salem, where he has since remained a portion of his time being devoted as a pastor in several places in this district.  During his early days here he pursued various vocations, such as the sash and door business, carpentering, etc.  He, with his brother-in-law, G.E. Witten, erected a flour and sawmill in South Salem.
Rev. Roork was also the principal worker in the gathering of funds for the erection of the South Salem M.E. church in 1870.
He served a term as agent at the Klamath Indian reservation.
As a worker for the interests of the First Methodist church in Salem, Rev. Roork was untiring in his efforts.  In the most unpleasant and discouraging conditions in the erection of the present beautiful brick edifice Rev. Roork was requested to undertake the work of raising the debt and if possi-ble complete the structure.  When he took the work in charge at the request of the annual conference there was a debt of $17,000 hanging over the building. Mr. Roork had been connected with the affairs of Willamette university for two years previous and had signalized his labors with great discretion in the management of its financial affairs.  When he assumed the difficult taks of clearing the church of its debt he did not trust in his own strong arm.  His first progressive step was to call together the brethren at the old wooden church where he conducted a prayer meeting, at the close of which he exacted from them a pledge that they should not be impatient at solicitation for money.  Notwithstanding this pledge given in all sincerity, it took a week of real labor to get ten of the brethren to sign a note for a loan of $1,000 to relieve the church from the attach-ments hanging over it. By what further skillful manouvering Rev. Roork engineered his work is not recorded.  In the two following years the old debts were cancelled and some $6,000 more expended in enclosing the church, furnishing the basement, and in building a parsonage.
In 1893 Rev. Roork was chosen to act as financial agent of Willamette university and again in 1894 he was requested to serve in that official position.  It was through his business activity that the fine large gymnasium situated on the eastern portion of the university campus, was erected.
In April, 1884, Rev. Roork's second wife died, and on August 3, 1890, he again married, this time Mrs. Betsy Levar of Coos county, being the one who decided to share his life.  She with two brothers and a sister--Rev. G.W. Roork of Salem, C.R. Roork of Pendleton, and Mrs. J.E. Witten of Lincoln--survive him, together with numerous distant relatives.
He was one of the early members of Salem lodge No. 4, A.F. & A.M.  At the funeral of the late ex-Governor Chadwick he presided as chaplain for that order.
The funeral will be held at the Methodist church tomorrow, the hour not yet having been decided on." OS Feb 19, 1895 4:4-5 w/photo

"There is something pathetic in the death of one whose years have not been completed, something that makes one given, maybe, a trifle overgiven to sentiment, feel grieved to see a rosebud broken from its stem, a violet crushed beneath the foot.  Yet this sentiment is in all humanity, more largely developed in some, but still, thank God, in every human soul.  So, when we are called upon to follow the silent clay, the little mortal frame that held the soul, the life, the spirit that has been part of our own life, and, far the better part, words have no consolation.  When the heavy clods fall upon the resounding planks that lie between us and those who have been our all, language is sacrilege, and silence alone is eloquent.
Mrs. Trista Meta Eudora Roth, wife of Theodore Roth, died at 5 o'clock Sunday evening, and this afternoon at 3 o'clock sorrowing friends gathered around the little grave in which she is to rest, alone but not forgotten.
Mrs. Roth was born in Corvallis September 4, 1877, being the oldest daughter of Professor and Mrs. E.H. Anderson, of this city.
Here she came as a child; here she attended the schools, forming those friendships that never die; here she developed into sweet and beautiful womanhood; here she married; here, a week ago, she gave to her husband a baby boy, and here today she has gone to her eternal rest.  Her father and mother, a brother and two sisters, beside her husband and her son survive her."   "Ruble--In East Portland, April 9th, 1888, Bertie C., youngest son of J.A. and Eva Ruble.
Little Bertie was a very bright and promising child, soon winning the affections of all that knew him.  His parents and friends fondly hoped that he would be spared to them, but the wise and loving Father thought it better to call him to a place in the home above before sin had sullied his bright and beautiful spirit.  He was a great sufferer, having died of convulsions.  May his sadly bereaved parents be comforted by the God-given hope of meeting their dear little lamb in the sweet by and by."   "Eva McIntire Ruble, wife of Joseph Ruble, died in the hospital at Colfax, Washington, Sunday, March 29, 1903, aged 39 years, after an illness of about one month.  She had been ailing for some time, but her friends thought she had about recovered, when she was taken suddenly worse and Saturday morning was taken to the hospital where she passed away about twenty-four hours later.  The doctors were unable to announce the direct cause of her death, the case being very complicated.
Mrs. Ruble, formerly Eva McIntire, was a daughter of Rev. McIntire, the pioneer Methodist preacher, who died about two years ago.  She was a graduate of Willamette University and had taught in the public schools of Marion county for several years.  For a number of years after her marriage to Joseph Ruble she resided on a farm just south of Salem, moving to Winona, Washington, where they have since made their home, Mr. Ruble engaging in the stock business.  Five children are left, Fred, Lloyd, Eva, Ruth and Joseph, ranging from 3 to 14 years.
Since her early youth she has been a devout member of the Methodist church.
The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in Rigdon's undertaking parlors, Rev. John Parsons preaching the sermon, and the burial will take place at 8:30 o'clock this morning in Lee Mission cemetery.  The burial is held at this early hour to enable the family to leave on the 11 o'clock train."   The earthly remains of little Faxie lie buried in Lee Mission Cemetery at Salem, with those of his younger brother who departed this life only five weeks earlier.  It is fitting that their little bodies should lie together in the same inclosure, while their happy spirits have entered into the heavenly fellowship with Him who said: `Suffer little children and forbid them not to come unto me, for, of such is the kingdom of heaven.'" RUIZ, Susan Gale

RC-13-18
“Susan Gale Ruiz, simply referred to as “Sue”, was born in Salem, Oregon on May 04, 1949 to Fran Folkstad & Richard Highberger. She lived throughout her youth and all her adulthood in Salem. She stayed faithful to her hometown and resided in Salem, Oregon her entire 71 years of life, where she raised all four of her kids, never once relocating. She attended North Salem High School but dropped out prior to graduation to join The Job Corp. The Job Corp provided her with both her G.E.D. and a whole new perspective on life. The diversity she encountered there was a welcoming experience that culturally educated her and would help shape her worldview and the rest of her life. Mom always taught us to embrace the differences in ourselves and other people. That we all were meant to be created differently but supposed to be treated equally.
Mom was a firm believer in God and the fact that we are all children of God. There are not enough words in our language to adequately describe what an amazingly beautiful person Mom was, nor the enormous pain that is felt with her passing when she succumbed to kidney failure on February 16, 2021. She never smoked, drank, or did drugs. It just demonstrates for us how unfair and unpredictable life really can be. We never expected her to leave us this soon.
While on earth, Mom was always an avid animal lover who advocated for animals any chance she got! She also enjoyed antiques, thrift-store shopping, interior decorating, watching documentaries, studying from the Bible, going on lunch dates with her daughter, listening to oldies & Gospel music, visiting with friends, and just getting out and cruising around town in her scooter. It will feel weird not to see her in her scooter riding up and down Broadway St, A.K.A “Sue’s Stomping Grounds.” It’s going to take quite a bit of time to get used to the neighborhood without her, as her absence is terribly noticed and felt!
She is survived by her ex-husband & father to her 4 children, Jesse Ruiz. Along with 3 grown children, 2 Daughter-in-Laws, 10 grandkids ranging in age from 2-24. Son Mario Ruiz, his wife Jennifer, his children Aleyah, Jackson, Calvin, Justin, Aurora. Son Marcos Ruiz, his wife Mary, their children Olivia & Liam. Her youngest child and only daughter Erica. Erica’s kids Izaiah, Natalya, Orlando. It should be noted that Mom was exceptionally close to these grandchildren. They had an exceptionally deep bond with their grandma!
She also leaves behind close family friend & caregiver Donna Castro, best friend Mark Marr, and beloved cat Toby (now in son Mario’s care). Shout out to her favorite Cherriots bus driver “Jerry”, who always brightened my mom’s days and held a special spot in her heart! Mom has never been the same since July 4th, 2019 when she experienced the sudden loss of her oldest son, Tino, at the young age of 44. It devastated our whole world, but nothing in comparison to Mom. She said, “a parent should never have to bury a child, no matter their age.”
We take comfort in the knowledge that our mother and brother are now together, and Mom is no longer going through the heartache of mourning him! We love you Mom & Tino and we will forever be missing you guys!!” Johnson Funeral Home, Salem, Oregon, Website

"Professor Russell Dead--Clinton H. Russell, an instructor in music at the Oregon Blind school in this city, died at the Salem Hospital on Sunday evening, March 8, 1903, at 7:30 o'clock, of heart disease.  He had been sick for about one month, but two weeks ago was much better and was removed to the Salem Hospital.  Sunday, however, he became much worse, and about noon was removed to the hospital again, where he sank rapidly until 7:30 o'clock, when the end came, bringing relief after a period of great suffering, which the sick man bore with great patience.
Clinton Russell was born in Virginia, June 15, 1879, and at the age of five years became totally blind as a result of an injury received by falling from a sleigh and striking his head while coasting down a hill.  He was educated at a school for the blind in Baltimore, Maryland, and for four years he held a position in the school as instructor in music.  In September, 1901, he came to Salem and has since had charge of the musical department of the Blind School.  He was an excellent teacher of several instruments, including the piano, cornet and trombone, but his specialty was the violin.  He also taught piano tuning, having had years experience as a piano tuner in the Knabe Piano Factory.
The mother and father of the deceased are both dead.  He leaves two sisters, Florence and Leila, in Washington, D.C., and one brother, now doing service in the United States army in the Philippines.
His abilities were of a high order and varied, his pupils making rapid progress.  He was considered a very successful teacher and his place will be hard to fill.
Rev. Geo. C. Ritchey conducted funeral services at the school chapel yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the remains were interred in Lee Mission cemetery." DOS 10 Mar 1903 3:1

"Long Lived Family---Late Mrs. Ryder Survived by Eight Brothers and Sisters Aged Over 60 Years--Mrs. Louise Ryder, whose death occurred in this city on Tuesday of last week, was a member of a remarkable family of mother, father and fifteen children.  Twelve of the children are living now and eight of  the twelve are over 60 years of age.  Two died in their infancy, but thirteen lived to cross to the other shore.  The surviving brothers and sisters of the departed lady are Mrs. Lavenia Dawley, residing in Iowa; Mrs. Isabell Botler, of Portland; Mrs. Laura Snell, of Drain; Mrs. Buena Vista Snell, of Canby; Mrs. Mary Collins, of this city; J.H Wanless,
of Springwater, Minn; Willson Wanless, of Sheridan; Brown Wanless of Portland; Alford Wanless, of Fort Benton, Mont; Charles Wanless of Amity; Gilmer Wanless, of this city and George Wanless, whose present place of residence is unknown.
Mrs. Louise Wanless was born in Battle county, Virginia, on May 22, 1833, and at the time of her death was aged 72 years, 5 months and 23 days.  When a young girl she removed from Virginia to McHenry county, Illinois, where, on December 12, 1854, she became the wife of Morgan Ryder.  While living in Illinois two children
were born to the happy union.  The family later moved to the state of Iowa, where two more children came to grace the household, and on May 2, 1876, Mr. and Mrs. Ryder and family came to Salem to establish a new home.  Two years later the second oldest daughter died and in 1883 the husband and father also joined the throng across the way.
The oldest surviving child is Mrs. A.M. Clough of this city and the other two are Mrs. F.J. Catterlin of Portland, and E.V. Ryder of this city.
Mrs. Louise Ryder was a member of the Methodist church since childhood.  She was a devoted Christian, kindhearted and generous, and her friends were counted by the score.  By her departure Salem loses one of its best citizens, one of its noblest women of the highest character.
