Burial Listing for surnames beginning with - W -

1) A single rose beside a burial listing indicates an unmarked grave.  If you find that your family member is unmarked and you wish to place a marker, please contact the Lee Mission Cemetery Board to discuss your options and to notify them of your intent.

2) A box with an "R" in it preceding a burial listing indicates a reserved plot

3) The number to the right of the death date is the burial plot number and can be used in the plot search option  to find out who is buried in adjoining plots.  An N/A in the plot location indicates that although the individual is known to have been buried in the cemetery, the exact location is not known at this time.

But there is still a blessed sleep.
"Wadsworth--Elisha Wadsworth was born in the year 1826 in Saratoga Co., New York, and died at Salem, Oregon, April 28th, 1883, aged 56 years, 9 months and 18 days.
In early boyhood he was converted by the Holy Spirit--realizing that through Jesus Christ he had obtained remission of sin and the renewal of his heart.  Through all his life he bore the conscious witness that he was saved from sin.  His home from conver-sion until death was with the Metho-dist Episcopal Church.  From 1837 to 1853 he lived in Allegan Co., Michi-gan.  He then came to Oregon and settled near Monroe, where he lived until two years ago when he moved to Salem.
Bro. Wadsworth was man of great usefulness in the church.  Nearly all his life he was an official member and was one of that noble band of stewards that made Monroe charge one of the choicest fields in the  Oregon  Con-ference for so many years.  His disease was consumption with which he battled long and hard.  His life was consistent.  His end was peaceful.  His sorrowing family have the blessed consolation of a reunion." OLD 200
"Death of Father Waller--Rev. Alvin F. Waller of Salem, departed this life at his home, at 5 o'clock A.M., Thursday Dec. 26th, 1872, at the age of nearly sixty-five years, of heart disease.  Father Waller was a man whose works were stamped upon the communities in which he lived, by a virtuous life, good deeds and a strong, selfreliant character.  Few men among us, falling away from the living throng, could have left such a void in the community as does the death of this revered teacher, dear friend and valued neighbor.  Salem mourns truly and deeply today the loss of one of her best and oldest citizens, and the church of which he was a member throughout the State bows in deep affliction under the blow which takes away a pioneer missionary, a zealot preacher, a faithful pastor, a safe counsellor, and true brother and friend.
Father Waller was born in Bergen, New York, in May 1808, of a staid, sterling and highly respected family.  He entered the ministry while yet quite young, and was for many years a circuit preacher of the Genessee Conference, New York.  Leaving that field of labor, under the promptings of a courageous spirit and strong desire to do some greater work for his Master than seemed possible in that region, he came to Oregon with the Missionary reinforcement which left New York city October 9th, 1839, in the ship Lausaune, and arrived in the Columbia River May 20, 1840.  He was soon stationed at Oregon City as a missionary laborer among the Indians, where he remained three or four years.  He was next stationed at the Dalles as missionary among the Wascopun Indians.  They remained there till the breaking out of the Cayuse war, 1845.  With others who escaped the fate of the Whitman family, he came to the Willamette valley.  His family home has since that period been at Salem.  For many years, however, he continued in the labors of a circuit rider and Presiding Elder of the Willamette District.  He was among the foremost workers in the founding of the Willamette University, and for twelve or more years, ending with the beginning of his last sickness, he was one of the leading spirits and most indefatigable labors in the support and building up of that institution of learning.  He had the satisfaction, before he died, of seeing it established on a sound and permanent basis.  To him more than any other man belongs the credit of the erection of the magnificent structure in which the school is carried on.  Without his indomitable courage and neverflagging perserverance, we doubt if the funds for its erection could have been raised in twice or thrice the time.  He was acknowledged by all to be preeminently, the right man in the right place for such work.  The building and the school stand as a monument to his memory, prouder and more enduring with this people, than the laurels of the conqueror of a hundred battle fields.  His labors deserve that his name should be chiseled in a tablet to be set in the solid walls, to stay there while the building shall stand.  Though occupying the relation for several years, in the M.E. Church, of a wornout minister, he was not exactly superannunated, because of his peculiar fitness and efficiency as Agent of the Willamette University.  Father Waller, though he has died, still lives in the work he did."  DOS Dec 27, 1872 3:1

"At his home on East State street, at 1 p.m., Friday, February 10, 1893, Charles A. Waller, aged 27 years.
The death of deceased was caused by a severe strain of the abdominal muscles, which was received while repairing an electric light in the Willamette hotel on the 3d.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.A. Waller, of this city, and grandson of the late Father Waller, and had a great many friends here.  He was married about a year ago to Miss Madge Baldwin, of Salem, and she, together with his sister and four brothers and parents survive him.  At the time of his death he was in the employ of the Capital City Railway company, and he has for many years been a member of Tiger Engine Co.
The funeral will be conducted at the family home today at 2 p.m., and the remains will be interred in Lee Mission cemetery." DOS Feb 11, 1893 4:3
"C. Alvin Waller, whose mortal remains were laid to rest in the Waller vault, Lee Mission cemetery, on Saturday last, was one of the most exemplary young men of Salem.
I do not believe that anyone will be more missed than he; for he was always most kind and obliging to everybody.  As a workman he was one that `needed not to be ashamed'.  Whatever he did he did it well and to the best of his ability.
Everyone that employed him respected him for his patient perseverance and honest industry.  Of him it may be truly said, "He did his best."
His last sickness, caused by a strain resulting from the slipping of a ladder, was borne most patiently, although he suffered intense agony.
Almost his last words were, `Nothing to fear,' in answer to a question of his mother's, words that give a great comfort to his sorrowing widow and bereaved mother.
Twenty-seven years of age spent amongst us all and above reproach.  Scarcely a year married, yet a year that will long be remembered by his young wife as one of almost unbroken happiness.
She had but to wish, if Alley could gratify the wish it was done.
Everyone who visited them and their most intimate friends especially, felt when in their company, that they were a most loving united couple.
It does seem difficult to understand why one should be taken and the other left, but God knows the reason why! `He is too wise to err, and too good to be unkind.'
`His ways are not out ways; neither are His thoughts our thoughts.'
We can only bow our heads and try to learn to say, `Thy will, O God, be done.'  One Who Knew Him."  DOS Feb 15, 1893 4:3

"Fatal Fire Probe is Ordered--Death `Unusual', 1 Dead, 5 Hurt In Auto Mishap--Burned clothing and hair from the body of Orrin Waller, 57, discovered apparently burned to death near a sister's home in Turner, were sent Monday afternoon to the state crime laboratories at Portland, Coroner L.E. Barrick said.
State and county officers who had joined Barrick in his investigation concurred with him in the belief that death of the man, crippled in childhood by disease, was probably by accident.  However, what Barrick termed `unusual circumstances' in the finding and condition of the body, led to further study.
Officers were told by a neighbor that he had seen Waller raking leaves at approximately 4:30 Sunday afternoon in the yard of his sister, Mrs. H.S. Bond, with whom he had made his home in recent years.
Shortly after 4:30, his brother A.F. Waller, also of Turner, called at the house but could not locate him, investigators were told.
At 9:30 a.m. Monday, A.F. Waller returned, and not finding his brother in the house, conducted a more thorough search.  He found the body lying approximately halfway between the house and a pile of leaves raked together for burning.  Clothing from the waist up was burned to ashes and first degree burns scarred face and the upper portion of the body, although leaves beneath it showed little sign of fire.
Reconstructing the incident, officers believe Waller may have gone to the house for matches and perhaps an oil-soaked rag with which to ignite the leaves.  Because of his physical disability he walked with a shuffling gait, often falling, they had been told.  That he stumbled and fell, setting fire to his clothing, and was unable to arise, they think a good theory.  He neither smoked nor drank, they said.
Mrs. Bond is in Berkeley visiting a son.  Surviving also is a brother, George C. Waller of Alameda, Calif." OS Oct 7, 1941 1:2  s/o Orrin A. & Mary (Chamberlain) Waller per D/C #857

N.S. Hawk officiating.  Interment will be in the family vault in Lee Mission cemetery.
`Atch' Waller, as O.A. Waller was familiarly known in days gone, was the son of Rev. Alvin F. Waller after whom Waller hall at Willamette university was named.  Born at Oregon City August 9, 1843, he came to Salem when he was still a boy, and for the space of two generations was prominent in the life of the city.
He was a gunsmith by trade, considered a master in that callingat a time when the use of guns meant gaining the necessaries of life and the protection of it from actual and threatened Indian invasions.  In his generation `Atch' Waller was one of the most popular residents of the capital city.
Mr. Waller January 19, 1856, married Mary L. Chamberlain, daughter of a pioneer Methodist missionary.  She died March 7, 1924.  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Elepha Bond of Turner; three sons, Albert F. Waller of Salem, George C. Waller of Alameda, Calif. and Orrin Waller of Turner; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Rev. A.F. Waller came to the Oregon country with Rev. Jason Lee on the ship Lausanne and attained the prominence in spreading Methodism in the northwest.  He erected at Oregon City the pioneer Methodist church building there, the first protestant church built west of the Rock mountains. The 1847 Oregon provisional government legislature convened in that church, as well as many other historic meetings of Oregon's early days.
Rev. Waller also supervised the building of Waller hall and was largely responsible for soliciting and collecting the funds to complete that historic structure at a time when upon its completion almost if not entirely depended the very life and continuity of the institution."   "Sad Case of Poisoning--Walter Churchill and Ethel Welch, Aged 4 Years, Drink Atropine and Ethel Dies--Englewood residents were thrown into great excitement night before last by the accidental poisoning of two children--a son of E.C. Churchill and a daughter of Thomas P. Welch--and the excitement has been since transformed into sorrow by the death of the latter.
Some small children of Welch's, some of  Churchill's and some others of the neighborhood were playing in Churchill's basement and with childish curiosity began exploring places and things supposed to be out of their way.  A 6-year-old Churchill boy found on top of a safe a box in which were stowed away a lot of bottles, among which was one whose existence was not even suspected by the family at this time.  It was a bottle of eye medicine obtained by Mr. Churchill two or three years ago, the active ingredient of which was atropine, a deadly poison.  After developments showed that two of the little ones drank some of this stuff.
Mrs. Churchill was notified that Ethel Welch, aged 4 years last April, had drank something out of one of the bottles and was not feeling well.  She went to the child and having knowledge of the action of the medicine, the little one's appearance at once told her of the danger.  The dilated pupil of the eye, the vacant stare and other symptoms indicated the atropine, so she at once took Ethel home, reporting the dread state of affairs to the mother, and quickly as possible a doctor was procured.
Walter Churchill, also aged 4 years, accompanied his mother to Welch's and in a short time he also complained of not feeling well, but the mother thought there was nothing serious, so she sent him home and remained at Welch's.  After a little while word came to her to hurry home, that Walter was suffering the same as little Ethel.  The physician who had arrived, exercised his best skill, passing from one house to the other and administer-ing such antidotes as science suggests in such cases, but in the little girl's case his efforts were without avail and Ethel Welch's spirit departed at 4:30 yesterday morning, having suffered terribly during the several hours.
The Churchill household also experienced a terrible night.  The boy went through the several delirious stages incident to atropine effects during the whole night until about 5 o'clock in the morning, when he dropped to sleep and continued to slumber until 10 o'clock in the forenoon, when he awoke entirely rational and has so continued, no evil effects being apparent.  It is thought perhaps the little girl took more of the deadly stuff than the boy, while the latter was also stouter and capable of stronger resistence to the drug.
Mr. and Mrs. Churchill are deeply grieved over calamity, but Mr. and Mrs. Welch attach no blame to them whatever.  Some time ago Mr. Churchill gathered and destroyed all bottles of dangerous medicine, and this one being unlabeled escaped their notice.
Ethel Welch was buried at Lee Mission cemetery last evening at 5 o'clock, Rev. W. J. Bowerman of the Free Methodist church officiating."

"Frank J. Welsh of Salem Meets Death Sunday on R.R. Track in Portland--Frank J. Welsh, a well known Salem nurseryman and former student of the Oregon Agriculture college, was run over by a freight train in Portland early Sunday morning and killed.  He is the son of Noah Welsh, a former principal of the Yew Park school, who resides at Eastwood farm on the asylum road.
Mr. Welsh had been visiting friends in Portland for the past week at the home of Dr. William House, 794 Quimby street.  Desiring to spend Sunday in Salem with his parents, he started to take an early morning train for home.  At 2 a.m. as he was crossing the United Railways yards at Twelfth and Overton streets, he jumped from the tracks of an approaching train and was run down by an engine which was backing up.  Friends and relatives were notified in Salem and a brother, Maurice Welch, a brother-in-law, Roy Melson, and Fred Mengis went to Portland immediately.  The body was brought back to Salem at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.
Mr. Welsh, who was 22 years old was popular among his friends in Salem where he was born and raised.  He was unmarried.  He was graduated from the Salem high school in 1911 and attended the O.A.C. until two years ago when he entered the nursery business, the State nursery, Commercial and Ferry streets, with his only brother, Maurice.  The father owns extensive prune and fruit orchards near town.
Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Welsh and the following brothers and sisters: Maurice Welch, Mrs. Roy Melson, Mrs. Chas. Fuller and Misses May Welch, Alice Welch and Mildred Welch, all of this city.
The funeral services were held yesterday at 3:30 p.m. from the family home at Eastwood farm in the presence of a large gathering of friends and relatives.  The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful.  Dr. Richard Avison preached the funeral sermon and Miss Ruth Fields sang favorite hymns.  Interment was in the family plot at Lee Mission cemetery, under direction of the Terwilliger Undertaking company.  The following friends of the deceased acted as pallbearers: Fred Mangis, Charles Eyre, Elmer Mangis, Willis Vincent, Carl Veatch and Benjamin Perlich."  OS May 4, 1915 6:3-4

"Well Known Singer Dies At His Home--Jacob Wenger Passes Away Yesterday Morning--Cause Is Bright's Disease--Death called Jacob J. Wenger, one of Salem's musicians and old time singers, yesterday morning at 5 a.m., at his home at 310 Belmont street, and he passed over the great divide and into the great mystery.
For the past twenty years he has been a resident of the Capital City and has delighted thousands with his voice.  He, with Dr. Epley, formed the mainstay of Salem's famous quartette.  `Jake' was a first tenor of rare merit and was the only genuine Swiss yodler on the Pacific coast.  With Jim Ross, Henry Kimdret, Dr. R.L. Steiner, and Dr. Eppley he was a member of the original famous Salem quartette that sang at all the prominent public affairs.  For the past ten years he has been connected with quartette, choral and chorus work, both in church and other work.  Ed. Judd, George Snyder, Dr. Eppley, and Jake Wenger formed the members of the now famous Stalwart Quartette.  The total weight of this quartette was about 1,000 pounds, and it could sing some.
Lived Here Twenty-two Years--He was connected with the First Christian church of this city for 20 years.  He has lived in Salem about 22 years and in that time has made hosts of friends who deeply mourn his loss.  For a period of seven years he was engaged in a music supply house with W.M. Cherrington.
Mr. Wenger was 44 years of age and though ill from Bright's disease at his home Sunday, said that he would soon be down town to tell the boys about his recent trip east.  Mr. Wenger and his family have recently returned from a trip to Chicago, and other eastern cities, and visited cities in Kansas and Wisconsin.
Mr. Wenger was born in Munroe, Wis., June 23, 1867.  Besides a wife he leaves a son, Carl, aged 10; one daughter, Trista, aged 7 years, and numerous relatives by marriage.  The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. from the First Christian church, Wednesday.  Rev. Davis Errett will conduct the services and interment will be made in Lee Mission cemetery." DOS Sep 5, 1911 8:5-6  s/o Jacob & Rosina (Dick) Wenger Sr. per D/C #2894

"Capture Of The Convict--An Interesting and Exciting Chase After E.J. White, Escaped Convict--Sheriff Ross Gives Details Of The Chase And How He Was Captured--Officer Of The Law Will Accept No Reward--The body of Ed. J. White, the Oregon convict, who escaped from the State Penitentiary on January 21, while out as a trusty, was brought to Salem yesterday afternoon from Albany, and taken to the Penitentiary.  Warden J.T. Janes, on instruction from Superintendent J.D. Dee, telegraphed to White's mother, who lives at Brandon Bandon, Coos county, telling her what had happened, and asking for instructions as to her wishes for the disposition of the body.
When received yesterday the body had only been dead about twenty-four hours, and Superintendent Lee said he would keep it as long as possible, or until he heard from White's mother, and, if she does not desire the body, it will be interred in the prison burying ground.
Superintendent Lee went to Albany yesterday intending to go on to Eddyville and identify the body as that of White, the escaped convict, but was met at Albany by Sheriff J.H. Ross, of Lincoln county, who was bringing the body to Salem.
The body was fully identified, from the descriptions, at the inquest, which was held at Eddyville, yesterday morning by F.M. Carter, the Lincoln county coroner.
Sheriff J.H. Ross was sent a description of convict Ed. White by Superintendent Lee immediately after the escape of White from the Penitentiary on the afternoon of January 21, and when a house was robbed on January 28, near Norton Station, the owner sent a detailed description of the robber to Sheriff Ross, and he immediately recognized convict White and the house breaker as being one and the same man.
Sheriff Ross immediately commenced a systematic search for White, and when he first got trace of him he was near Elk City, going toward Yaquina Bay.  White then left the railroad and crossed over through a desolate country to the county road running from Beaver, to Waldport, and on Saturday he was heard of going toward South Bend, and Sheriff Ross went to Waldport hoping to head him off.
White arrived at Lutjens at 2 o'clock and crossed in a small boat to Waldport, where the sheriff was waiting for him.  Getting out of the boat, he jumped over a pile of logs, went under the dock, and continued down the beach.  Sheriff Ross ran around a creamery building which stood near, hoping to head him off, but was compelled to go about three times as far as the convict and came out about twenty-five yards behind. Sheriff Ross commanded White to halt and throw up his hands, when White instantly wheeled and commenced firing at the sheriff with a 44-calibre Colts revolver, with an eight inch barrel.
The sheriff had not attempted to shoot before, as White had not shown fight, but now opened fire with his pistol.  At the third shot White drop-ped to the ground ,  crawled behind a log and fired two shots from a rest.  Ross jumped behind a snag and emptied his six-shooter, and then broke the gun to extract the shells, when White jumped and ran.  Several unarmed citizens of Waldport stood near watching the encounter.
Up to that time White had been working north toward Brandon in an endeavor to reach the home of his mother, but he now turned and, during the night, recrossed the Alsea Bay, taking a boat belonging to a Mr. Gland, and landing near Lutjens post- office, went back over his old tracks, and, Sunday night, stopped at the home of Mr. Thorp, a new comer, who knew nothing about the convict being in the neighborhood.  Monday morning White wrote a letter and borrowed a pair of boots of Thorp on the pretense of mailing a letter at Lutjens.  Going about a quarter of a mile he turned into the timber and Monday evening took supper at John Bowers' on Beaver Creek, and from there he went to Arnold's Slough, three miles below Toledo, on Yaquina Bay.  From there Sheriff Ross tracked him to near the mouth of Mill Creek, where he took a boat and crossed.  In the afternoon of the next day Henry Gannon met him on the railroad near Starr Station, and held a short conversation with him.
White seemed to be very tired and considerably lame, and that evening at 7:30 o'clock, when the citizens entered Chitwood school house, where literary exercises were to be held they found that White had built a fire in the house to warm himself and dry his clothes.
He immediately decamped and went east on the railroad track for about two and a half miles where he slept in a straw stack.
In the morning of the fatal day he got breakfast at a house near where he had slept.
At 9 o'clock the convict came out to the railroad track a short distance below Eddyville.  About twenty minutes before this Sheriff Ross met Robert and Alec Warnick and had deputized them to assist in the capture of White, and the deputy sheriffs, accompanied by Mr. Hewitt, started home to get ready for the man hunt, and while going along the railroad track saw White, who hid among some logs till they were about 100 yards past.
Robert Warnick had his Winchester rifle with him, and taking a hand car which was near, started back to warn the sheriff.  He had proceeded but a short distance when White came from his hiding place and started for Warnick's house.  When about ninety yards away Deputy Sheriff Warnick ordered him to halt and throw up his hands.  White wheeled and leveled his big revolver at Warnick, but seeing Warnick throw his Winchester to his shoulder White side-stepped, and ran to a worm fence skirting the road.  He ran along the worm fence keeping his body hid about half the time.  Warnick commanded him several times to halt, and fired three times at the fugitive.  White ran to the Warnick house where a horse was standing saddled and endeavored to mount him, but the horse being excited, he did not succeed, and the rein broke, then White started away, and Deputy Warnick shot, the bullet passing through White's clothing.  White then ran rapidly toward the barn and Warnick again fired, this time with more accuracy, the ball striking White in the small of the back and coming out about the central part of the abdomen.  White reeled and fell on his knees, but before striking the ground, turned the revolver toward his own head and fired, the ball striking the center of the forehead just below the hair line and ploughing a hole through his cranium about three fourths of an inch in diameter.
Warnick's brother, coming up at this time said: `Don't go near until the sheriff comes.'  They went to Eddyville with the hand car, picking up the sheriff and several men, and when they returned White was still alive, but he died about five minutes later.
He had fallen upon his face and was still gripping the revolver with the fingers pressing the trigger.  His hat was blown about six feet away and was still burning when found.
The body was wrapped in a blanket and conveyed to Eddyville on a hand car where Coroner F.M. Carter empanel-led a jury and held and inquest.  The verdict of the jury was that: `White came to his death from the effects of gun shot wounds made by Robert Warnick and himself, and that Deputy Sheriff Warnick was justified in firing the shot.'
The body was then taken to Albany by Sheriff Ross, where Superintendent J.D. Lee identified it as that of convict Ed. White.
On arriving in Salem Sheriff Ross turned the revolver which was found in White's possession, over to Super-intendent Lee.
In regard to the $100 reward which was offered for the capture of the convict, Superintendent Lee said it would be paid to Sheriff Ross, and the sheriff made the following statement: `When I deputized the Warnick boys to assist in the capture of the convict White, I told them that, in the event of a capture being effected, they could have the money to divide between them, as I was drawing a salary and that is all I ask.'
Sheriff Ross made a vigorous and determined chase which was very fatiguing and deserves great credit for bringing about a capture and also for laying no claim to the reward." DOS Feb 6, 1903 4:3 See also: DCJ Feb 7, 1903 4:1

Eugene police reports indicate that Mrs. White with her brother and his wife made a special trip to Eugene to see Lawton upon learning of his intention of leaving for California.  On reaching the depot Lawton promised to stay over until the next train and talk with Mrs. White.  A conversation was carried on for some time and then Mrs. White went outside and sat in her brother's car.  After some little time she again entered the depot.  Her brother requested her to return to the car and wait for him.  He said she acted strangely and seemed to be clutching something in her coat.  An instant later the report of a gun was heard.  Rushing outside they found that she had shot herself with a pistol.  The bullet entered near the heart and physicians' reports indicate that it ranged downward, puncturing the spleen and intestines."   To this union was born seven children namely: Annie M. Pugh, of Salem; Alva Ashbury, of Mountain Home, Idaho; Charles W. of Payette, Idaho; William W., of Nyssa, Oregon; Dr. B.H.   For the past eight years her home has been here in Salem, Oregon.  All those who were acquainted with this good mother will never forget her faithful and untiring devotion to her home and her family.  Aside from her faithful attention to her home and flower garden she loved so well she found time to devote to others.  Forgetful of her own weakened condition, the evening before death called her she visited a sick neighbor to bestow sympathy and render any assistance possible.  Unaware that she was not to awake again here she fell asleep peacefully feeling that all would be well.
All the absent children were present for the funeral.  The service was conducted at the Webb & Clough Chapel by Rev. A.N. Avison of the First Methodist Episcopal church.  The scripture reading was from John 14-23 to 14-3 and Phil. 1-20, 23.  Dr. Avison lifted the grief from the sorrowing hearts of the bereaved by his inspired words on the theme `To Die Is Gain.'  Mr. Frank Barton and Miss Barton, his sister, rendered most beautifully the hymns, `Nearer My God to Thee,' and `Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.'  The final resting place of the earthly tabernacle of this devoted mother is in the historic Lee Mission Cemetery."   Robert William White (Bob White), 71, of Salem Oregon, passed away May 24th at Salem Hospital due to multiple long term health issues. Bob was born in San Francisco, California on December 22, 1948. He graduated North Salem High School in 1966 and spent most of his life in the Salem Area. Following High School Bob joined the United States Army and served on the frontlines of the Vietnam Was as a heavy equipment repairman. After the war he worked in truck driving and management for Valley Oil Co., Less Schwab, and Deluxe Ice Cream.
Bob is survived by his son Ryan White and daughter Heather Gonzalez. He was a proud and loving grandpa to Kolby, Caleb, and Mackenzie White and to Logan Lewallen as well as a beloved uncle.  Bob is also survived and loved by his girlfriend of many years, Patsy Dunmyre.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy White.

Anyone who had the privilege to know Bob loved him.  He was the fun-loving life of every party, a strong man with an impeccable work ethic, and someone with a deep desire to seek out joy and humor in every opportunity. Cruising and car shows were some of Bob’s greatest passions. Throughout the years he owned various hot rods and custom cars and was considered a local celebrity at any car show he attended.
Bob will be missed by all who knew him and will never be forgotten.
A private graveside service for family is planned at Lee Mission Cemetery. A celebration of life for friends and family will be planned for later this summer as social gathering restrictions lift."  Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home Website

"Samuel French was born January 24, 1835, in Misskingum county, Ohio, and died March 21, 1918, in Salem, Or., reaching the good, ripe age of 83 years, 1 month and 27 days.
Oct. 3, 1863, he was married to Margaret Ann Maham, in Janesville, Ohio.  To this union were born seven children as follows: Anna M. Pugh, Salem, Or.; Alva A. White, Mountain Home, Idaho; Charles W. White, Fruitland, Idaho; William W. White, Nyssa, Or., Berthis H. White, Salem, Or.; George W. Kennebee, South Dakota, and Minerva Working, Gooch, Or.
In the spring of 1864 Mr. White and wife moved from Ohio to Madison county, Iowa, and from there to Lenora, Kansas, in 1883 and to Salem, Or., in 1908.  Thus the greatest part of his life was spent as pioneer on the frontiers.  He leaves seven children, 18 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Father White exhibited in his character the fine qualities of the early pioneer.  At the age of 23 he was converted in the M.E. church and from that time until death he was always active in Christian work.  He was a conspicuous figure at Salem revival meetings, his patriarchal appearance coupled with a powerful pioneer preacher's voice, commanding the respect of all that heard him speak.
Dr. Berthis H. White, one of the sons of the old pioneer, is a prominent physician of this city, his residence being at 355 N. Capitol street.  Mrs. Pugh, who also lives in Salem at N. 17th St., is a former school teacher, having practiced her profession for over twenty years.  Alva W. White is postmaster at Mountain Home, Idaho, and the rest of the family are all respected farmers.  Thus the old pioneer reared a family that is a credit to any community.  The funeral services were in charge of Rev. Jacog Stocker, and took place at the local Evangelical association church, 17th and Chemeketa St., at 2 o'clock today. Interment was at the Lee Mission cemetery." DCJ Mar 25, 1918 9:7

"Funeral of Father Wilbur--Services held at the M.E. Church--Buried beside his Wife, in Lee Mission Cemetery--The remains of Father Wilbur having been brought up on Sunday night, from Portland, where memorial services were conducted in the morning, the funeral services were conducted in the presence of a large congregation, in the M.E. church, yesterday morning.  Many of the audience had known the deceased in former years, and had been co-laborers with him in his pioneer missionary work in this city.  Recitations were dismissed at Willamette university, of which throughout its entire history, from its struggling infancy to the comparatively prosper-ous present, Father Wilbur had been the steadfast friend and substantial supporter, and the students were present in force.  The services were conducted by Rev. Wm. Roberts, Rev. H.K. Hines, and Rev. I.D. Driver, for many years intimate friends of the deceased, assisted by Rev. Sam. Driver, Rev. N. Doane, Rev. W.S. Harrington, Rev. J.L. Parrish, and Rev. C. Alderson, and the regular choir, under the leadership of Dr. Hall, Messrs. Roberts, Driver, and Hines in turn paid tribute to the memory of the noble pioneer missionary, whose entire life had been spent in sustaining by his energy and money the early civilization of the northwest, and in Christianizing the untutored Indians of this then savage country.  In this work he had been more or less aided by each of the three gentlemen, whose recital of the early hardships undergone by the self-denying pioneer minister scarcely less affected themselves than their audience.
The remains were at 12 o'clock followed to Lee Mission cemetery by a long procession, the church bell tolling solemnly the requiem of him who had spent forty-one years of unselfish effort for the good of his fellow men.  The services at the grave consisted of the recital of the Methodist ritual by Revs. Hines, Roberts, and Doane.  Mr. Wilbur's body was interred by that of his wife, who preceded him so shortly to the other shore.  It is intended to bring up from Portland the remains of the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur, who is buried in the same lot as the Taylor Street M.E. church, and inter them beside those of her parents.
James Hiram Wilbur was born in Louville, N.Y., September 14, 1811; was licensed to exhort June 27, 1840; was ordained a minister of the M.E. Church January 4, 1842; came to Portland, Or., June 27, 1846, and from that blessed day to the day of his death he has ever been a faithful minister of his honored church, and, like his Master, `went about doing much good.'  His first charge was at Salem, where he built the first church.  He also built the first churches in Portland and at Oregon City.  During his useful, pure and holy life on this coast, the good father helped to build not less than nine church buildings and seven parsonages.  He annually contributed about $3300 toward church and charit-able purposes.  He was the founder of the Portland Female academy, and of the Wilbur academy at Wilbur, Or.
Father Wilbur was a builder and a tower of strength in his church, and his life was as pure as that of a saint.  He held the honorable position of educational agent of the M.E. church of the Columbia conference from 1861 to 1882; was instructor and Indian agent at For Simcoe, W.T., during the same period, going to Walla Walla in 1882 and remaining there ever since.
Father Wilbur was the son of an honest farmer, who was a deacon in the Presbyterian church.  When the venerable old man returned to Walla Walla recently..."WOS Nov 4, 1887 5:2

Driver.  Of Mrs. Wilbur the Oregonian says: `Mrs. Wilbur came to this coast among the early missionaries.  Her husband built and was the first pastor of Taylor street M.E. church.  Father Wilbur helped to clear the land on which Portland now stands and built the Portland seminary and Umpqua academy.  For many years Father Wilbur was Indian agent at Yakima.  While her husband for many years occupied these responsible positions Mother Wilbur was in the truest sense of the word a "helpmate.' Mother Wilbur was cultured and truly refined.  As a christian her piety was deep and her walk always consistent.  Her presence was always felt for good, and the circles where she moved were moulded by the impress of her beautiful life.  She passed away from her earthly home at a good age in great peace, but her pure life and fully developed christian char-acter will long live among her many acquaintances."   "Mrs. Albert Williams was born in Sandusky, Ohio, united in marriage to Albert Williams in Elk Prairie, Missouri and died in her home at Auburn, Salem, Oregon, September 5, 1919, at 8 a.m.  A number of friends, her physician, her brother, J.W. Barnes and his wife, of Portland, besides her four children, were at her bedside.  One other brother lives in the East and was not present.  She was laid to rest in Lee Mission cemetery, September 8th beside her husband, who preceded her over seven years, and her sister Mrs. G.W. Grannis, who died about ten years ago.  Her life was spent in the service of the master.  She was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, being always present at the service when able.
With her husband she helped organize and support many Sunday schools, wherever they made their home.  As they did the Auburn Sunday school, near her home, where she was the teacher of the young women's class, organized under the name of the "Faithful Workers" and which she last taught the Sunday preceding her death, having taught the class since the Sunday school was organized about eighteen years ago.
The influence of her exempliary and remarkably unselfish life, was always an inspiration to those who knew her.  Besides her four children, who were with her, she had buried one boy.  She also took the place of mother to several nieces, both in her own, and her husband's family, as well as to several outside the family circle.
The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. R. N. Avison, assisted by Rev. G. L. Lovell, pastor of the class in her neighborhood.  Her favorite hymn, `How Firm a Foundation,' was sung by Miss Barton.  Her casket was buried by many floral offerings.  Those of her Sunday school class who could be present formed a guard of honor."  DOS Sep 20, 1919 2:3

"Willman--At the family home, 276 Church street, Salem, Wednesday morning, July 20, 1904, of tuberculosis, Mrs. Etta Anders Willman, wife of Frank L. Willman, aged 36 years.
While the above announcement comes as a severe shock to her many riends, it has for some time been known that Mrs. Willman was in very poor health.  She had been failing for a year and a half, but only for the past few months has her condition caused the family any uneasiness.  Since closing her studio this spring with graduation exercises, deceased seemed to have released her hold upon her very active career as a musical instructor.  She has since that time gradually failed until her spirit finally passed away this morning.
Mrs. Willman was born at Thurmont, Maryland 36 years ago.  After her marriage to Mr. F.L. Willman she came with him to Salem, Oregon, about 13 years ago.  Since residing here the greater part of the time Mrs. Willman has maintained a music studio, and was recognized as one of the most accomplished persons in her profession in the West, having many graduates of exceptional ability.
Deceased leaves, besides her husband, a son, Frank L. Willman, Jr., aged 11 years, and also her mother, Mrs. A.J. Anders, who has for years made her home with her.  She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Wm. H. Biggs, of Baltimore, Md., and a brother, Dr. H.C. Anders, of Washington, D.C.
In the death of Mrs. Willman Salem loses one of her brightest stars, for she was not only an accomplished musician, familiar with all the classics and their significance in the world of art, but she was everywhere recognized as a most loveable woman, a charming conversationalist, and a true friend.  Nothing was too much to do for those she loved, and her resources and energies were freely shared when the slightest wish of a friend or pupil seemed to demand them.
The funeral will be held at the home Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, and the burial will take place at the Lee Mission cemetery, adjoining the city on the east." DCJ Jul 20, 1904 8:4

Had Dr. Wire lived until June 11 he would have celebrated his 84th birthday, having been born in 1846 at Union, Broome county, N.Y.  He graduated from the then young Northwestern university at Evanston, Ill., in 1874.
Two years later the future Oregon minister graduated from the Garrett Biblical Institute.  Upon completing this course Mr. Wire joined the Rock River conference of the Methodist church, this conference then including the Chicago district.
Just a week after he had become a member of the conference the preacher was married to Miss Mary E. Bradshaw.
In 1884 Rev. Mr. Wire transferred to Oregon.  His first pastorate in this state was the church at Salem, of which he had charge from 1884 to 1887.  The following year he was pastor of the church at Eugene.
In 1888 Dr. Wire was made presiding elder (now called superintendent) of the Portland district.  He served in that field for six years, returning to the Eugene church in 1894.
There he was minister until 1896, when he was transferred to Albany, continuing in the work in the Linn county capital until 1904, when he was made presiding elder of the southern district, which comprised nearly all of southern Oregon.  He held that important post until 1910, when he was retired from the ministry.
After he had completed his labors in the field of the church Dr. Wire moved to his farm near Newberg.
He is survived by his widow and three sons--Rev. Melville T. Wire, pastor of the Methodist church at Pendleton, Ore., and Frank and Wesley, both of Portland." Oreg May 27, 1930 12:5-6

Woods Was College Man and Practiced Medicine For Several Years--Left His Home Yesterday Morning Apparently in the Best of Health and Died Within An Hour--Has Been Troubled with a Weak Heart and Death Was Not Wholly Unexpected--J.D. Woods, an employee of the Spaulding Lumber company, died early yesterday morning at the mill; the death being caused by heart disease.
Woods was a man of about 60 years, and has lived for some years in this city, his home being on the corner of 18th and D streets.
Although he had left home on the morning of his death in the best of health it has been known by his wife for some time that he was subject to heart trouble and the news of his death, though it came as a great shock to the family, was not altogether a surprise.  The deceased, although he had been employed by the mill company for a number of months, was a graduate of a medical college and practiced medicine for a number of years.  He leaves a wife and two daughters, one who lives at the home in this city and the other who is married and is living in San Francisco.
The funeral services will probably be held at the house tomorrow and the body buried in the Lee Mission cemetery.
Just before he fell dead Wood was talking and joking with the men in the mill.  According to an eye witness, one of the workmen had on an apron belonging to Woods, who jokingly remarked that his companion had made a poor selection, as the apron was rather worn and ragged.
`I have a better one than that,' said Wood. `Why didn't you put this one on.'  As he spoke he reached up to the nail on a post where the new apron was hanging.  But before he could reach it he threw up both hands and fell backward on the floor.  His companion rushed to the side of the prostrate man, and, to their amazement, found that he was dead.  The coroner was immediately summoned, and the body removed to Clough's undertaking parlors.
The men on the second floor of the mill were laid off until afternoon."  DOS Aug 11, 1908 1:5

"Death of Mrs. E.L. Woodward--It is our painful duty to announce to our readers the sad intelligence of the death of Sister E.L Woodward, wife of Rev. L.T. Woodward, Presiding Elder of Salem District, Oregon Conference. She died at her residence in Salem on Sabbath morning last, in the 45th year of her age.  We have known Sister Woodward for nearly twenty years, and can bear testimony to the uncommon excellency of her character as a Christian, and the great value of her personal labors and sacrifices in the cause of Christ.  As a teacher, at home, in the day school, the Sabbath school, and the Bible Class, few were more intelligent, laborious and successful than she.  The Statesman of Monday last says:
In all the walks of life she was a useful worker in every good cause, and her loss will be severely felt by those who were her co-laborers.  As a wife and mother at home, as a neighbor and friend, and as a Christian woman, she lived respected and beloved in every relation.  To the father and children, whose home life was brightened by her kindness, the loss is irreparable; but she leaves a blessed memory of pure life, brightened by Christian example to keep her name alive in the hearts of all who knew her.  The death of Mrs. Woodward occurred on Sunday morning, and she died in the full triumph of faith, rejoicing and believing in her Savior.  The funeral services were held in the M.E. Church yesterday morning, and were conducted in the most impressive manner by Rev. C.C. Stratton, Rev. Mr. Nickerson, and Profs. Rogers and Powell.  They were gathered there besides the many and dear friends and associates, those of down trodden races whom she had taught, and their presence was not mere act of curiosity, but they came to see for the last time, and bear testimony of respect for one who had been their friend.  Mrs. Woodward was 44 years of age.  She had lived 22 years single and 22 years married.  She came to her end in great peace and being asked, `Do you fear to cross the River?"  She answered, `No I shall go over dry shod,' and she added, `Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me.'  She gave the Bible, which she had 26 years to her only son." Hall of this city; but her case was beyond human aid, and she was finally taken from her earthly friends to that bright upper world to join her sainted mother who departed thence but one short year ago.  Libbie was moved by all who knew her, and the entire community feel her loss.  She was just entering upon a brilliant future when she was cut down by him who doeth all things well.  Her remains were brought down yesterday afternoon and were met at the depot by a large concourse of her personal friends who followed them to her once happy home now made desolate by her loss.  Her numerous friends and acquaintances sympathize with them in this their deep affliction.  A coincidence might be mentioned, that both mother and daughter were taken sick at Albany, and attended church there for the last time.  Rev. Mr. Shaw, Pastor of the M.E. Church of that city, accompanied the friends of the deceased to their home and will assist at the funeral exercises today."  DOS Nov 18, 1872 3:1

"At home in East Salem at 11 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, 1890, Anna Wright, aged 22 years and 18 days.
The family has lived in Salem about fourteen years.  Anna was a young lady of unusual intellectual promise. After finishing the high school course in the public school a few years ago she attended Willamette university for nearly two years.  She taught six terms in Polk and Marion counties, and invariably succeeded in satisfying her patrons.
Last March while teaching near Sublimity her health began to fail and she was compelled to give up her school before the end of the term and for nearly a year she has suffered with great endurance.  Miss Wright joined the church at the age of 11 and lived in accordance with her religious profession until her death.
She had many friends, both among the students and wherever she had acquain-tances.  The only daughter of a large family, she is sorely missed.  The family have the earnest sympathy of a large circle of friends in this hour of their sore trial.  Her father is Wm. Wright.  The funeral will be held today at 2 o'clock p.m., the remains being interred in the Lee Mission cemetery."  DOS Jan 13, 1890 4:3

"The Dead of A Day--Mrs. Lydia Wright Passes Away--Her Funeral Today --Mrs. Lydia Wright, long a well-known resident of this city, died yesterday morning at her home at the corner of Thirteenth and Ferry streets.  To friends of the bereaved family, the announcement, though it will be received with sincere sorrow, will cause little surprise.  Mrs. Wright has been ill for over two years with consumption.  About three years ago she was stricken with blindness and this was really the beginning of the siege of illness which terminated yesterday in her demise.
She bore her affliction with such patience and fortitude that her friends were deceived into the belief that her condition was not alarming.
Several days ago she began to grow worse and it became apparent then that the end was near.  She sank gradually until shortly before 12 o'clock yesterday noon when she expired.
Mrs. Wright was born in Bernadotte, Ill., and was in her fifty-second year.  She had resided here about twelve years and was profoundly respected by all who knew her.  She was a member of the orders of Degree of Honor, A.O.U.W.; of the Silver Bell Circle, W. of W., and the Ladies of the Maccabees.  These orders will attend her funeral in a body.
The deceased is survived by her husband, William Wright, and seven sons, Samuel M., Charles C. and Virgil F., of this city; D. Perry, of Albany; Harvey L., Woodburn; W. Dean, Walla Walla, and Alfred S., of this city.  The funeral will be held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock p.m. from the Christian church, of which she was a most devoted member.  Rev. Mr. Manning will officiate.  Burial will be had in Lee Mission cemetery, where her three daughters sleep.  Mr. Wright is in Butte, Montana." DOS Nov 17, 1897 5:2
